In Jeff Jarvis’s eyes the news industry has completely changed in how news is now created, talked about, and discovered. It is no longer journalists working to put together the daily news. Now it is more along the lines of a journalist constantly spitting out bits and pieces of stories as they come, and the news that is produced is more fluid which allows the stories to grow over time. As Jarvis puts it, “Now a story never begins and it never ends… (it) in whatever medium — is merely a blip on the line, a stage in a process, for that process continues after publication.” This has all changed with the now wide spread use of mobile media from online newspapers to even Facebook more often than one would think. He sees the “Press Sphere” as all the different influences on a story from the journalist to organizations and even the readers; it is coexisting self-driving system.
Jarvis’s view on the change in media makes complete sense. It has become perfectly visible as well in the twenty-four hour news media like CNN and Fox News. Shows on those types of networks will draw feedback from places like twitter and facebook live on air, and report on it like it is cold hard news. However this is an extreme case and the constant flow of news should not be seen in a bad way. It needs to be embraced and unutilized by the public, because a well-informed public is better capable of running a successful society.
